         This page is dedicated to the men & women of WEUSI who have transitioned. They pioneered the " Black Arts Movement ". We give praise to our ancestors.

Birds Universe

Hameed Benjamin -An esteemed WEUSI ancestor. These three images are only a small snapshot of his talent.

Bill Howell ( 1943 - 1975 ).....An " Untitled " work by a master painter. This work is 40 x 50 inches on canvas. A master graphics designer and illustrator, he became the first African American Art Director of an East Coast chain store (J.M.Fields ) in the 1960's.

Kay Brown was a printmaker extraordinaire. This looks like an aquatint etching. She was a publisher, author, graphic & fashion designer as well as a printmaker. Kay received her undergraduate degree from The City College of New York City and her masters degree in Fine Arts from Howard University in Washington D.C.

James Seypo was a printmaker, designer, educator and painter. He exhibited " Forward " in the " Journey To Consciousness " show held at the WEUSI Nuyumba Ya Sanaa Gallery & Academy of Arts and Studies located in Harlem, New York. James made many contributions to the Congo Square Drummer (Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York).

Abdul Rahman wore many hats as a WEUSI warrior. He was an artist, designer, lecturer, and educator. He curated shows for WEUSI and was the Assistant Director of The Nyumba Ya Sanaa Gallery of Arts and Study Academy. a community activist, he was the Director of the Afro Arts Cultural Center in Harlem, New York.

G. Falcon Beazer was born in New York City. He is widely considered to be a self-taught art although the records show he did have some classes at the Arts Students League and City College of New York. He travelled extensively through North Africa, Mexico and Southern Europe. He studied, lectured  and exhibited during his time is these regions. He is also credited with founding Karma, the Living Workshop In Karma.

Okoe Pyatt

A master collage artist & painter. His work has been collected nationally and internationally. Okoe spent more than 50 years making art and is one of the founders of the WEUSI Academy of Art & Studies.
